After leaving school I entered a City and Guilds apprenticeship in bench joinery where I learnt the fundamentals concerning all aspects of the joinery trade as well as additional areas including shop fitting and bar fitting, high quality interior joinery and fitted furniture.
Moving on after I received my indentures I worked for a cabinet maker as a workshop based joiner in charge of interpreting designs and resolving design and construction issues for mainly fitted furniture and fittings.

The work that I have taken on during my career so far has been varied and interesting; fitted and freestanding furniture for domestic and public spaces have featured strongly along with more unique commissions such as designing and producing pieces within the ecclesiastical field completing works for several churches in the area.
I also have much experience of both standard and non-standard joinery as well as theatre set design & building as well as model making and children’s play equipment for a national, government based child support network.

Having a background in constructional joinery has allowed me to further my knowledge of joinery as both a fundamental part of the furniture trade and also construction technique as a decorative element and this is the driving force of my design philosophy.
A knowledge of joinery also gives me the opportunity to push these techniques further than they were originally intended allowing me to investigate and incorporate more modern techniques and styles.
I like to use a wide range of methods and techniques when making my designs including veneering, shaping, carving and laminating, I am also keen to try-out different materials like acrylic, leather and metals, signs of which can be viewed in the Gallery.
